Hadrian became Emperor on the death of Trajan, in August, 117 AD.
He is known as one of the "Five Good Emperors", which consist of Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, and the two Antonines.
Emperor Hadrian had a love of Greek Culture and he is often portrayed in statues and on coins with a full beard, which at the time of his reign was a Greek Custom, most Roman Men preferring to be clean shaven.
Hadrian died on July 10, 138 AD at his Imperial Villa at Baiae, on the Bay of Naples.

This left foot, may have originally came from a huge statue in Ancient Rome. It was restored as a votive offering to the gods by the Ancient Romans. It is marble and was made in the first or second century AD, which places it in the era of the Emperor Hadrian. The huge left foot was found by Gavin Hamilton in Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli, Italy. The holes drilled into the huge foot, once held supports for a metal sandal.
